Academic Polices and Procedures :Grading System

Letter Grade

Per Credit

A student's scholastic achievement is evaluated by the instructor, based on the student's assignments, examinations, class attendance and other criteria outlined in the course syllabus. Students will be given a course syllabus during the first week of class. A course syllabus is a contractual agreement between the instructor and the enrolled student. Letter grades are computed using the 4.0 scale provided below:

E (Pass by Examination) used only for graduation requirements and not GPA
or CGPA or honors. Credits earned by this process do not equate with sitting a course. Courses that have been taken for a grade reflect the planned learning and development goals for that course.

The semester Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated as follows:

1.       Find the grade point value for each letter grade.

2.       Multiply the grade point by the credits attempted for each class to equal quality points.

3.       Total all the quality points.

4.       Total all the credits attempted.

5.       Divide the total quality points by the total credits attempted to equal GPA.

For example:

Letter Grade Credits Points (QP)

Grade Points

x

Attempted

= Quality

A

4.0

3

= 12

B+

3.3

4

= 13.2

F

0.0

0.0

= 0.0

1. Total of quality points (QP)

12.0 + 13.2 + 0.0

= 25.2

2. Total of credits attempted

3 + 4 + 3

= 10

3. Quality Points divided by Credits Attempted

25.2 / 10

= 2.52

4. GPA = 2.52
