Student Support Services for ELI Students (SSS)
The nation has asserted a commitment to providing educational opportunities for all Americans, regardless of their race, ethnic background or economic circumstance. In support of that commitment, Congress established a series of programs to help low-income Americans enter college and graduate. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and are referred to as the TRIO programs (initially just three programs). The purpose of the ASCC Student Support Services/ ELI Program is to provide academic support services each year to 150 limited-English proficiency students who meet the federal eligibility criteria. The program enables these students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for them to pursue the full range of academic and career options. To date, the program has enjoyed a 75% success rate.
