| Upward Bound Program |
| The Upward Bound Program is funded by a federal grant
from the United States Department of Education and is administered
under the auspices of the Northern Marianas College in cooperation
with its member institutions at three locations: Palau, American Samoa
and the Northern Marianas College. |
| The ultimate goal of the program is to help high school
students prepare for college education by providing the academic and
social skills development training necessary for them to succeed in
today's competitive post-secondary education institutions. |
The program provides classes in Math through
Pre-calculus, Laboratory Science, Foreign Language, Composition and
Literature. Instruction in other subjects necessary for education
beyond high school is also made available.
Counseling, academic advisement, tutorials, exposure to cultural events
and career mentoring are provided for students throughout the academic
year and the summer component. Numerous extra-curricular activities,
such as campouts,
educational field trips, visits to universities and colleges in the
State of Hawaii and cultural field trips to Samoa are designed to
promote and strengthen the students’ leadership and social skills. |
