Board of Higher Education Renews ASCC President's Contract |
The Board of Higher Education (BHE) at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) has unanimously voted to renew the contract of College President Dr. Adele Satele-Galea’i for the next two years. According to BHE Chairman Pemerika Tauiliili, “We felt that with an accreditation review taking place this year, and also with our ongoing progress towards establishing a four-year program, we should maintain a consistency of leadership during this crucial time for the College. The Board also gave careful consideration to concerns over the President’s recent illness, but she has received a clean bill of health from her doctors, and the enthusiasm she has displayed since her return from off-island has removed any doubts we may have had regarding her capability to continue the fine work she has done so far as the leader of ASCC:” The new contract will mark a fourth term as ASCC President for Dr. Satele-Galea’i.

An employee of ASCC since 1978, Dr. Satele-Galea’i says she feels proudest about bringing to the job an emphasis on longitudinal data as an important reference for improvements to ASCC at every level. With the approval of the Board of Higher Education, the College administration has identified institutional priorities and has made steady progress in these designated areas. Dr. Satele-Galeai comments, “In particular, I look forward to continuing my work with the Board of Higher Education, the faculty and staff in achieving re-accreditation from the two-year WASC accreditation commission; launching the first Bachelor’s degree program at ASCC; and completing major construction projects such as the lecture hall and multipurpose auditorium.”
“We have made many achievements at ASCC that we can take pride in,” stated the President. She extended her thanks to the Board for their confidence and approval. “I also wish to express my gratitude to our government leaders, Governor Togiola, Fono members, and members of the Community at large for their support of our College. ASCC belongs to everyone, and I will always consider it my mission to work together with all of its stakeholders for the sake of our students and the Community.”
President Satele-Galea’i also expressed her thanks to the current membership of the BHE, whom she credits for helping the College work through a number of challenges. “I feel honored to have worked with these dedicated individuals,” she said. “For the members whose tenures on the Board conclude this year, I wish them success and fulfillment in their future activities.” As mentioned in the local media, Chairman Tauiliili and Rev. Seva’aetasi will continue serving on the BHE, while the remainder of the Board will consist of new members recently appointed by the Governor, pending Fono confirmation.
