January 9, 2007 - ASCC Student Accepted for Internship Programs in Florida

American Samoa Community College (ASCC) student Valilio Aetonu Jr. departs this week for an internship at the Newfound Harbor Marine Institute (NHMI) in the Florida Keys.  The interns and instructors chosen for this program possess a wide variety of college degrees. No matter what their background is, all are driven by an inspiring interest in marine biology. January 29, 2007 - ASCC Students Debut Original Artworks at Exhibition Opening Thursday

Two emerging artists in the Fine Arts Department at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) will debut their works in a public exhibition titled “Afua mai le Eleele: Down to Earth,” which opens this coming Thursday evening, February 1st, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Feleti Barstow Public Library in Utulei. Student artists AJ Afano and Henry Utoaluga will showcase an array of figurative and abstract images painted in acrylic on canvas and masonite. The artists’ mentor, ASCC Art professor Regina Meredith, describes their works as “very intriguing and impressive, something you have to experience on a first hand basis.” Read More...

January 30, 2007 - BOH Grant Enables Wheelchair Accessibility at ASCC-SBDC

In several months time, the American Samoa Small Business Development Center (AS-SBDC) at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) will include a new reception area, an additional classroom/meeting area, and wheelchair accessibility, all thanks to a recent grant award of $10,000 by the Bank of Hawaii (BOH) Charitable Foundation.  Last week, BOH District Manager Brian Glass visited the AS-SBDC headquarters on the ASCC campus to present the award. “In addition to expanding our public areas, this award will enable us to make our facilities available to clients in wheelchairs, which will open up a while new dimension of service for us,” said AS-SBDC State Director Herbert Thweatt.
