March 14, 2007 - ASCC Education Department Unveils "Teacher's Creed"

Teacher Education majors at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) recently formed a student  association which they named the Lumana’i Educators of American Samoa Association (LEA’A). To help strengthen the foundation of LEA’A as an organization of professional future educators, and to promote the Teacher Education and Training Department (TETD) program at the College, the club recently sponsored the first in what it hopes will continue as a series of guest speakers on Teacher Education. LEA’A chose as its inaugural guest speaker new TETD adjunct faculty member Dr. Tudie Sala, who took this opportunity this past Friday to discuss a recent document called the “Lumana’i Teacher’s Creed.” Read More...

March 15, 2007 - ASCC Upward Bound Students Gain Experience and Insight During Career Fair

38 students from Tutuila’s public and private high schools, along with another 12 from Manu’a, spent most of their Spring Break learning about career opportunities and touring potential employment sites during the Career Fair organized by the Upward Bound program at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC). The Career Fair, which concluded this past Thursday afternoon, gave the Upward Bound students the opportunity become familiar with businesses and organizations in the public and private sectors, and to spend time in workplaces on and off the ASCC campus. March 19, 2007 - ASCC Hosts Two-Week Music Workshop

The Fine Arts Department at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) is hosting host a special two-week music workshop open to the Territory’s band instructors and students, currently underway and continuing through Friday, March 30. Professor Siuai Laufou, currently the Director of Bands at the Kamehameha School in Hawaii, is conducting the workshop, along with ASCC Music Department head Namulauulu Dr. Paul Pouesi and his staff. March 19, 2007 - ASCC-AELEL Offers Free GED Preparation Classes

Anyone in the Territory with an interest in gaining knowledge and skills now has the opportunity to take free classes and to improve their chances of earning a General Educational Development (GED) certificate, thanks to the Adult Basic Education (ABE) program offered by the Adult Education, Literacy and Extended Learning (AELEL) division of the American Samoa Community College (ASCC). The ABE program, recently reconfigured by AELEL Director Dr. Taitaifono Otineru and her staff, got underway this January, and will commence its second nine-week term later this month. Read More...

March 27, 2007 - ASCC Students Accepted for Broadway Theatre Project

Three students from the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) now have the opportunity to attend a unique musical theater program this summer, after having passed the audition for the Broadway Theater Project (BTP), based at the University of South Florida. Every year, BTP student apprentices study for three weeks with professional artists and educators from the worlds of theater, film and television. During this intensive musical theater course, which lasts from July 8th to 29th, students attend classes in acting, dance, voice and writing, with an emphasis not only on the individual disciplines, but also on the collaborative process and the collective creation of art.
