May 1, 2007 - ASCC Student Support Services Introduces New Data Management System

Data equals accountability. That simple truth governs modern life in the private and especially the public sectors. Efficient data management has proven the key to success for some public and private institutions, while others have collapsed due to poor data management. These days, data plays an especially important role in education as well. On an individual level, a student needs an accurate transcript of his/her academic achievements when seeking higher education. On an institutional level, the federal government offers generous funding for education, as long as the recipients can provide “proof of performance” via accurate, verifiable data. Read More...

May 2, 2007 - ASCC Business Students Celebrate Successful NZ Trip

In mid-April, nine from the Business Department at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) spent nine days in New Zealand completing the practicum (field experience) component of their degrees in Management. The students, all members of the Salesmanship (MKT 210) course, toured a number of New Zealand factories to observe firsthand the production, packaging, and distribution processes used by various businesses. “In addition to learning about the manufacturing of goods in today’s market, the students also learned valuable skills in working as a group to achieve a goal,” said Business Department chairperson Dr. Faofua Fa’atoafe, who led the trip. May 3, 2007 - ASCC/CNR Student Accepted to Summer Research Program in Costa Rica

The Organization for Tropical Studies has announced the acceptance of Faiane Jacinta Miller, a natural resources student with the Community and Natural Resources (CNR) division at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC), to a research experience and cultural exchange program designed for Native American and Pacific Islander undergraduate students this summer. Faiane will travel to Costa Rica to participate in The Native American and Pacific Islander Research Experience Program, which will take place from June 4 to July 30. May 9, 2007 - ASCC Chamber Sings Honolulu Visit Highlights Cultural Exchange

As reported in the local media last month, 15 members of the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) Chamber Singers traveled to Honolulu to participate in the Hawaii International Choral Festival, which took place from April 15th to 22nd. This marked the first occasion that a choral group from American Samoa performed at the festival, which every year brings together chamber ensembles from across the mainland and the Pacific region.  Read More...

May 11, 2007 - Dr. Oreta Mapu Togafau to Give Keynote Address at ASCC Graduation a

The Spring 2007 semester at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) will conclude with the College’s 46th graduation ceremony on Friday, May 18th, beginning at 10 a.m. in the College’s gymnasium. This semester’s ceremony will feature a keynote address by Dr. Oreta Mapu Togafau, who has had a long and distinguished career of public service in American Samoa, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C.   Dr. Togafau also holds the record as the longest continuously serving member of the Board of Higher Education (BHE), the governing body that oversees ASCC. May 14, 2007 - ASCC Announces New Administrative Appointments

Last week, the office of the President at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) announced three new appointments to the College’s administration. President Dr. Adele Satele-Galea’i welcomed Dr. Falema’o M. “Phil” Pili as the College’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Dr. Emilia Sabado Le’i as the Dean of Student Services, and Mrs. Keseta Okenaisa Fauolo as the Director of the Institute of Samoan Studies. May 21, 2007 - ASCC Signs MOU with Army to Continue ROTC Program

As part of her address during the graduation ceremony at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) this past Friday, President Dr. Adele-Satele-Galea’i made special mention of the College’s new, full-time ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) instructor present at the event, SFC Kenneth Thompson. The President also announced the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the College, the U.S. Army, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) ROTC program which formalizes the roles and responsibilities of all signatories in the ROTC program at ASCC.
