2LT MARYJANE PORTER

U.S. Army

Born and raised in American Samoa, 2LT Maryjane Porter received her direct commission in December 2006 while a member of the 793rd Engineer Detachment of the 411th Engineer Combat Battalion. She started her military in 2001 when she joined the US Army Reserve and completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft Leonardwood, MO. From 2001-2006, she moved from specialist to staff sergeant and served as public affairs officer, squad leader and acting platoon sergeant for the Equipment Section. From 2004-2005, she was deployed with the 411th Engineer Combat Battalion to Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. She currently serves as the Executive Officer for the 793rd Engineer Detachment in American Samoa.

Her military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course in 2003 in Schofield, Hawaii and Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course (Phase 1) in 2006 in Ft. Lewis, Washington.

Her awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Bars (2), Army Commendation Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M-device, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.

On the civilian side and prior to her selection as APMS at the American Samoa Community College, 2LT Porter was Head of the Information and Education Division for the American Samoa Government Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources from February 1994-August 2007. She is a graduate of Washington State University with a BA in Political Science.
